Pelado Island (via São Gonçalo)
Three beaches, crystal clear water and seafood straight from the sea. Only by boat. Worth every minute.
About the beach
Small island with three beaches separated by rocks, accessible exclusively by boat 10 minutes from Praia de São Gonçalo. Calm, crystal clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Restaurante da Bete serves moquecas and fresh seafood directly on the beach.
How to get there
Car: BR-101 towards Angra dos Reis, ~30 km to Praia de São Gonçalo. Local boats make the 10-minute crossing (R$40–100/person round trip depending on the season). There is no direct bus to São Gonçalo.
Features of the sea
Calm, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, SUP and kayaking. Three beaches with distinct characteristics: one more open, two protected by rocks.
Structure on site
Kiosks and restaurants on the island with fresh seafood. São Gonçalo Beach has a complete structure of kiosks at the exit.
Best time
All year round. Winter: calmer sea for the crossing. Summer: busy but vibrant. Avoid rough sea days.
Security and alerts
Pay attention to sea conditions when crossing by boat. There is no medical service on the island — emergencies depend on return.
Practical tips
Arrive early to guarantee a place at the restaurants and snorkeling rocks. Snorkeling among the rocks at the tip of the island is really worth it. Combine your visit with lunch at Restaurante da Bete — shrimp moqueca straight from the sea.
Curiosities
Ilha do Pelado is just 1 km from São Gonçalo Beach. Its three beaches have different characteristics: one more exposed to light waves, two completely protected by rocks with pool waters.
