Ponta Negra Beach
Remote caiçara village within the Juatinga Reserve. No electricity, no signal — just crystal clear sea and living culture.
About the beach
One of the most remote and authentic beaches in Paraty. The community of Ponta Negra maintains a caiçara way of life with artisanal fishing and community-based tourism. Accessible by boat (10 min) or via a 7.8 km trail. It is also the entry point for the most demanding part of the Travessia da Juatinga.
How to get there
Bus line 1040 to Vila Oratório (Laranjeiras). Boat: ~R$40/person, 10 min, from Laranjeiras pier. Trail: 7.8 km from Vila Oratório to the community, moderate-difficult, 2h–3h30. By car: park in Laranjeiras.
Features of the sea
Calm, crystal clear waters. Excellent for swimming and snorkeling among the rocks at the point.
Structure on site
Rustic village. Partially without electricity. Limited cell signal. Simple bars and restaurants with fish and seafood. Domestic accommodation in high season. Mandatory cash.
Best time
Winter and spring (calmer sea for the boat). Avoid weeks with heavy rain if you are hiking.
Security and alerts
Long trail: minimum 2L of water per person, snack, sunscreen. Let someone know about the itinerary. Emergencies are difficult to resolve here. Boat: check sea conditions.
Practical tips
Crossing by boat is the most practical option. Snorkeling and diving off the rocks at the tip are exceptional. It is possible to continue from Ponta Negra to Cairuçu das Pedras and Martim de Sá (advanced trail). Hire a local guide for the following stretches of Juatinga.
Curiosities
The Ponta Negra community is part of the Cairuçu APA and the Juatinga Ecological Reserve. The community-based tourism that residents practice is a reference on the Rio de Janeiro coast for simultaneous cultural and environmental preservation.

Overall rating
For those who want real disconnection and authentic caiçara culture. It requires planning — boat logistics, cash, no deposit. But it delivers one of the most unique experiences on Costa Verde.
