Praia do Sono
Starting point of the Juatinga Crossing. Camping on a 1 km wild beach with an active caiçara community.
About the beach
1 km wild beach with traditional caiçara community, campsites and direct connection to the trails of the Juatinga Ecological Reserve. Accessible by boat (10–15 min) or moderate trail (3 km). It’s the beginning — or the end — of one of the most beautiful crossings on the Costa Verde.
How to get there
Bus line 1040 from Paraty bus station to Condomínio Laranjeiras (~45 min). By car: BR-101 towards SP ~18 km, roundabout towards Trindade, head towards Laranjeiras. From Laranjeiras: free van to the pier + boat 10–15 min (R$50 return). Trail: 3 km, 50 min to 1h30, with steps and differences in level.
Features of the sea
1 km long, open sea with moderate waves. Clear waters. Ideal for those who enjoy surfing smaller waves.
Structure on site
Campsites with bathrooms, chalets and houses for rent, restaurants with caiçara and açaí food. Electrical energy (oscillates). Very weak cell phone signal.
Best time
April to October (less rain). Summer: full and vibrant beach. Winter: emptier, pleasant weather for trails.
Security and alerts
Check sea conditions before swimming. Trail gets slippery in the rain. Bring enough water. No cell phone signal.
Practical tips
Plan at least 2 nights to really enjoy it. From Praia do Sono, there are trails to Antigo and Antiguinhos (45 min, easy) and to Ponta Negra (2h30+). Return logistics matter: confirm the boat time in advance.
Curiosities
The Sono community has lived off artisanal fishing for generations and is part of the Juatinga Ecological Reserve, protected by the state of RJ. It is one of the most visited points in the reserve — and the most accessible entry point for those who want to discover Juatinga.
