Connecting with the Juatinga Traverse
Saco do Mamanguá and the Juatinga Traverse meet in the Paraty-Mirim area, but they are different itineraries. Mamanguá can be added as the start, finish or a planned extension of the trek.

How the connection works
INEA describes the Juatinga Traverse as a 39 km long-distance route between Vila Oratório and Paraty-Mirim. Since Paraty-Mirim is also the main boat gateway to Saco do Mamanguá, the two itineraries can be combined—usually by adding Mamanguá before or after the trek. This does not make the inlet the central hub of the traverse. Praia do Sono, Ponta Negra, Cairuçu das Pedras, Martim de Sá, Juatinga Lighthouse and Sumaca lie on the peninsula’s ocean-facing coast; Mamanguá is on the sheltered side. Land and boat connections vary with the itinerary, boarding point and sea conditions.
Safe planning
Do not assume that a boat can pick you up at any beach, and never rely on a sea transfer that has not been arranged in advance. Exposed parts of the coast may become unsafe for landing when conditions change. For the full traverse, confirm open trails, overnight stays, meals and transportation ahead of time, and consider hiring a local guide. INEA requires an accredited guide or visitor conductor for Saco Bravo Waterfall. On other sections, confirm current rules and choose support appropriate to the difficulty and your experience.
