Saco do Mamanguá is a unique geological formation on the Brazilian coast: a deep cove 8 km long and 2 km wide, wedged between the Atlantic Forest mountains and the Costa Verde sea. With 33 beaches, 8 caiçara communities and preserved mangrove ecosystems, it is one of the most untouched areas on the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Location: municipality of Paraty (RJ), ~25 km from the historic center. Access point: Paraty-Mirim (18 km from Paraty, 30 min by car).

Environmental protection: Cairuçu APA (federal) and Serra do Mar State Park (state). New construction is prohibited in the area.

Name: from Tupi mamangûá = "cove of mamangás" — reference to three species of shrubs native to the local ecosystem.
