Choose your base before your outings

You can visit Paraty without a car. Start by checking your accommodation’s location in relation to the bus station, Historic Center, and tour departure points. A cheaper room may not save you money if every outing requires a private transfer.

Before booking, ask your host which routes you can walk with luggage, where the bus stop is, and how to arrive at night. A short distance on a map does not establish the quality of the walking route or access for someone with limited mobility.

Buses: check the destination and both directions

Colitur lists urban routes serving Trindade, Paraty-Mirim, Vila Oratório, and Penha, among other destinations. Use its route list, then confirm departures for your travel day. The timetables consulted differ across sources, so we have not reproduced a schedule that may be out of date.

At the bus station, confirm the route, your stop, applicable fares or free-travel arrangements, and return departures. Check whether walking, hiking, or a boat trip is still needed after the bus. Reaching the access area does not mean reaching the beach.

• Trindade: choose beaches with their individual access routes in mind.
• Paraty-Mirim: check both bus journeys before arranging a boat tour from the area.
• Vila Oratório and Laranjeiras: confirm the correct stop for Sono and plan the next stage separately.

Allow separately for boats and transfers

Ask whether a tour includes hotel pickup or begins at the pier. Get the exact meeting point and arrive with the lead time requested by the operator. Avoid tight connections between a boat tour and an onward bus; navigation conditions may affect the return.

For private transfers, agree in writing on pickup and drop-off, time, passengers, luggage, and total price. If the same driver will bring you back, confirm the meeting arrangements and how to make contact if plans change.

A practical way to divide your time

Our suggestion is one period for the Historic Center, another for a single destination served by bus, and a separate day for a boat tour. This reduces connections and clarifies which transport needs arranging. It is a planning suggestion, not a guaranteed timetable.

With limited time, make fewer trips. Consider Trindade and Paraty-Mirim as separate outings rather than automatically combining them. Use the Guide’s map alongside actual schedules: straight-line distances do not represent the journey.

Before setting out

Save your accommodation address, return pickup point, and a copy of the timetable you checked. Carry an accepted payment method and keep money available for unexpected costs. Avoid relying on the final departure when an important connection follows.

Use the Guide’s map to locate places and its beach and trail entries to understand the final access stage. If the forecast or transport service changes, adjust your plans before leaving the central area.
