Before the official Carnival

Pre-Carnival filled the week immediately before Paraty’s main Carnival celebrations. The consolidated official calendar lists the 2026 edition from February 6 to 12; the main Carnival opened on February 13 and continued through February 17.

Distinguishing the two periods makes the 2026 schedule easier to understand. Pre-Carnival served as a time for preparation and community gatherings, but the sources reviewed did not publish a complete day-by-day schedule for the full date range.

Confirmed activities in 2026

At Casa Caiçara in Tarituba, Carnaval dos Povos included a Carnival accessories workshop on February 6. On February 8, the venue hosted a Carnival percussion workshop and a procession with masked performers, Bloco Cocantar, FCT Mirim, and stilt walkers.

In central Paraty, the Municipal Gazette confirms a performance by Grupo Chega Mais on February 10 at Praça da Matriz. These are documented activities from the 2026 edition, not a reconstruction of the entire week’s program.

Central Paraty and local communities

The 2026 edition shows that the lead-up to Carnival extended beyond the Historic Center. Praça da Matriz hosted live music, while Casa Caiçara in Tarituba brought together a workshop and a Carnaval dos Povos procession.

For visitors, this means that “Pre-Carnival” refers to a period with activities in different parts of the municipality. Venues, performers, and times may change each year and should be confirmed once the next edition’s program is published.
