About the beach

Cepilho is the first beach on the approach to Trindade and is known for strong waves and surfing. Seabed contours help produce consistent surf, and the Cepilhão Open is held on selected dates. The water demands experience and caution.

How to get there

Follow BR-101 toward São Paulo to the signed Trindade turnoff, about 27 km from Paraty. Municipal buses serve the village. Park in a designated area and continue to the beach on foot.

Sea conditions

Rough water with strong, consistent waves. The shape of the cove concentrates the swell. It is not recommended for children or inexperienced swimmers when conditions are strong.

On-site facilities

Only basic facilities at the beachfront. Board rentals may be available, while inns and restaurants are located in the nearby village.

Best time

Surfing is possible throughout the year. Waves are generally more frequent from May through September.

Safety and advisories

Strong waves and currents make this beach unsuitable for children and inexperienced swimmers. Watch the conditions from shore and enter only when they match your ability.

Practical tips

For board rental, lessons, or surf events, confirm availability and dates in the village. The viewpoint above the beach offers a safe place to watch the waves. Pack out all trash and do not remove natural materials.

Curiosities

Cepilho is the Portuguese name for a woodworking plane, a tool traditionally used when shaping wood for canoe building. The name is associated locally with Trindade’s caiçara boatbuilding heritage.
