About the beach
Martim de Sá is one of Paraty’s most remote beaches. A caiçara family welcomes visitors and maintains a camping area. There is no road or reliable cell service, and electricity is limited. Arrange lodging directly with the community.
How to get there
Reach the beach by boat from Paraty-Mirim, a trip of about 45 minutes, or as part of the multi-day Juatinga coastal traverse. There is no road access.
Sea conditions
The sea ranges from moderate to rough along this semi-exposed coast. The beach may suit surfing when conditions are favorable and also offers a long sandy shore for walking.
On-site facilities
Camping with restrooms and cold showers, plus a small place serving simple fish meals. Electricity is limited and cell service is usually unavailable.
Best time
Boat access is generally easier from April through October. Avoid the rainy season when hiking.
Safety and advisories
This is a remote destination without cell service or immediate emergency response. Share your route, carry water, wear proper shoes, and confirm trail or sea conditions with the community.
Practical tips
Arrange lodging or camping directly with the community in advance. Bring cash and enough supplies for your stay. Pack out all trash and respect homes, paths, and local guidance.
Curiosities
The family at Martim de Sá has welcomed hikers for generations. The beach lies within both the Cairuçu Environmental Protection Area and the Juatinga Ecological Reserve.
