A small caiçara village set between Atlantic Forest and the open sea. Ponta Negra combines a quiet beach, community-based hospitality and access to trails in the Juatinga region.

How to get there

Take a municipal bus or drive to Vila Oratório in Laranjeiras. From the pier, the boat takes about 10 minutes; schedules and fares vary. The trail from Vila Oratório is 7.8 km, ranges from moderate to difficult, and takes roughly 2 to 3.5 hours.

Sea conditions

Calm, crystal clear waters. Excellent for swimming and snorkeling among the rocks at the point.

On-site facilities

The village has simple restaurants, homestays and local guides. Electricity and mobile signal can be limited, so bring cash and confirm accommodation and meals in advance.

Best time

Winter and spring (calmer sea for the boat). Avoid weeks with heavy rain if you are hiking.

This is a remote destination with limited communication and no immediate emergency response. On the trail, carry water, wear proper shoes, and share your route; by boat, check sea conditions.

Boat access is usually the most practical option. Continuing from Ponta Negra to Cairuçu das Pedras or Martim de Sá involves advanced trail sections; hire a local guide. Pack out all trash and respect community paths and homes.
